"Pianoman" Duane Shinn is a pianist
and piano tutor with over 40 years of teaching experience. During
these years he has written and developed over 500
(!) books, CD's and DVD's on all
aspects of piano playing. Duane's experience is
bolstered by formal music studies. This guy knows the piano, and
definitely knows how to teach.
Power Piano Chords is different from
the other courses here: As its name implies, this course focuses on
teaching chords, rather than being a run of the mill piano course.
However, the quality of this product and its comprehensiveness are
top-notch.
The course is based on a 104 pages,
fully illustrated eBook, containing just about every piano chord
known. It describes in text and in hundreds of clear photos all
existing piano chords, plus truckloads of chord progressions and
variations. You start learning basic chords, continue to more
advanced chords, variations and inversion, and finish off with
learning basic and complex chord progressions. The course even
contains two lessons teaching Gospel chords. Very thorough!
The excellent eBook is supplemented
by excellent audio files explaining the lessons. The author explains
everything so clearly, it's virtually impossible to end a lesson
without clearly understanding all the chords, variations and
progressions taught.
Due to its comprehensiveness, the
course may be favorably compared to college programs for teaching
chords, costing thousands of dollars. However, because of the
course's defined focus and its lack of video files, it is not our
first choice for a fully-fledged piano teaching course.
Having said that, we highly recommend
it both for intermediate, advanced or pro students who wish to
complete their knowledge of chords, and as a complementary product
for the other courses.
